Mourinho will wait to decide on Lukaku’s Cup final fitness

The Belgium striker is in a race against time to be fit for the Wembley showdown with his former club. And United manager Mourinho, possibly hoping to keep Chelsea guessing, said on Friday that he remains uncertain if Lukaku will be available.Mourinho will be able to call on French forward Anthony Martial, who has recovered from the knee injury he sustained in training.“Martial is fit. Lukaku we have to wait until the last moment. I don’t want to lie and say he doesn’t play or vice versa,” Mourinho told reporters at United’s hotel. It would be a significant blow to United’s hopes of winning the FA Cup for a record-equalling 13th time if Lukaku is unable to pass his late fitness test.Since Lukaku was sidelined, United have lacked a cutting edge and they scored only once in their last three games of the season. The 25-year-old energised United with a goal spree at the start of the season after arriving from Everton in a £75 million ($101 million) deal.Lukaku has scored 27 times for United in all competitions this season, making his first season at Old Trafford a success overall. But he went through a sustained barren patch — with one goal in 12 games — after opposing defences began to sit deeper to stop the Belgian hurting them with his pace.Mourinho was also forced to defend Lukaku from criticism by United fans frustrated at what they perceived as a lack of effort from their muscular forward.Lukaku got back on track at the start of 2018, but had scored just once in his last five appearances before picking up the injury that leaves his Cup final hopes of a knife-edge.0Shares0000(Visited 1 times, 1 visits today)last_img read more

Seward statue unveiled in front of Alaska Capitol

first_imgSibling sculptors Judith, left, and David Rubin flank their 6-foot bronze sculpture of William Seward unveiled July 3 in front of the Alaska Capitol. (Photo by Jacob Resneck/KTOO)A statue of the U.S. statesman behind Alaska’s 1867 purchase from Russia now stands in front of Alaska’s Capitol building.Listen nowThe plastic covering was pulled down Monday afternoon to reveal a 6-foot sculpture of Secretary of State William Seward. The work of Ketchikan-based siblings David and Judith Rubin, it was erected to mark the 150th anniversary of the transaction that shifted Alaska from being Russian-America to U.S. territory. The Juneau Community Marching Band struck up a tune as 21st century politicians honored the 19th century top diplomat who was one of President Lincoln’s closest confidants during the Civil War.“You know you’ve heard the history of Seward but I’d like to just recite what Seward means to me,” U.S. Rep. Don Young told the 100 people gathered. “First, he made me a congressman and and I want to thank him for that. And secondly, every time I fly into Alaska and I do this twice a month and I’d be flying either to Southeast or up around the Railbelt into Barrow or somewhere and I think, ‘My God, what a place he did for us’ when he bought us for $7 million … $200,000 or $200 million or whatever it was.”But Steve Haycox, a University of Alaska Anchorage history professor, noted that many who lived here in 1867 resented the transaction between colonial powers.“Tlingit and Haida leaders have rightly called attention to the fact that their ancestors were not included in the purchase agreement despite their having a concept of property ownership,” Haycox said. “To my mind, it’s appropriate that as part of the sesquicentennial celebration we fully acknowledge Tlingit and Haida sensitivity on this issue.”Lt. Governor Byron Mallot speculated that Seward would have appreciated the negotiating skills of the Alaska Native tribes when the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act was passed in 1971.“Like selling the Brooklyn Bridge, Alaska Natives sold Alaska again in 1971 for a bit more than $7.2 million,” Mallot said. “And that was for a $1 billion and 44 million acres of land that we were allowed to keep.”The statue was largely made possible through private fundraising from individuals and corporate donors. It stands slightly below street level next to the Dimond Courthouse.last_img read more

Will Electric Scooters Pump Up The Sport of Golf

first_imgNow, one might think that golf and motorcycles don’t have a lot of crossover, but Evel Knievel himself made a living in his later years by hustling guys on the course for money. Modern motorcycle daredevil Robbie Madison also seems to like the game, or at the very least literally “liked” some of Phat Golf’s pictures on Instagram (but seriously, he enjoys playing and says the pressure of it freaks him out and gives him the chills). A little research turned the “Milwaukee Golf Caddy” up a rack that installs in place of a saddlebag on your Harley that came out in 2010, sells for $500, and is still being sold 8 years later, so there must be more golfers who ride out there than you’d think.Way back in the 1950 this idea was tried by Bobcat, yes the Bobcat that makes those little earth movers, with something called the Bobcat Compact Golf Car. Just like the electric Finn, the bag slipped in between the handlebars, and you straddled it. Unlike the Finn it may have been street legal, but really what wasn’t back then? Under the sporty body work was a pull start 3 horsepower Kohler motor to carry you and your bag over the course and home again. Years after that failed, there was a Honda mini sidecar specifically made for carrying your golf bag while you rode a Monkey bike around the course. The Finn Scooter is coming from Sun Mountain, a company that produces bags, and the kind of golf carts that you roll behind you. They are a company that is deeply connected to the golf industry and you would think devoted research before introducing this new two wheeled golf cart. It maxes out at 15 mph and can play 3 full rounds of golf between charges, though we aren’t sure what that means in miles. The Finn copies the Bobcat, with the bag sliding down the frame between the handlebars and seat. It goes on sale this spring, or you may see it at your local course, rentable with a phone app just like a Bird or Lime. The Phat Golf is already available, being just a spin off of the line of Phat electric scooters that have been on sale for a while. In most states you can ride them anywhere you’d ride an electric scooter or bicycle, and (despite what some websites say) they have a top speed of 20 mph. On sale now, the Phat Golf is about $2,000 and can go 30-50 miles on a charge. If you don’t play golf you can save a few hundred dollars and ditch the rack on the back.We don’t plan on covering every electric bicycle and scooter that comes down the pike, but back in 1959 all the big bike companies ignored a little upstart called Honda when they introduced their 50cc bike via hardware stores. Lime and Bird electric scooters, electric assisted bicycles, and things like these golf scooters could be the gateway drug that introduces Millennials and Generation Z to the two wheeled lifestyle. Next thing you know they could be jonesing for a Zero or a Livewire. Anyone else see the similarities between the Phat and that Harley electric minibike prototype?Sources:, Phat Scooters, Finn Scooters. Harley-Davidson Livewire Electric Motorcyle: 110-Mile Range For $29,799 5 Favorite Electric Motorcycle Designs Of 2018 Will they turn more golfers into riders? We don’t cover what goes on at the annual PGA show in Orlando, FL, but this past week two companies showed electric golf motor scooters. Despite what the Motorcycle Industry Council recently reported, everyone agrees the the average motorcycle rider is approaching retirement from riding. Could these new scooters be a subversive way to win over some new motorcycle riders? The Finn Scooter does not list a top speed, but the Phat Golf tops out at 20 mph when switched from turf to street mode, and that surely is more exciting that hitting a little ball.More E-Bikes Source: Electric Vehicle News Lightning Teases New Long Range, Low Price Electric Motorcycle Author Liberty Access TechnologiesPosted on January 30, 2019Categories Electric Vehicle Newslast_img read more
