Heavy rains continued to hammer Thailand’s flood-ravaged south on Saturday, bringing the death toll up to 18 and leaving thousands of villages partially submerged, authorities said. The flooding, which was roof-high in some areas, has affected nearly one million people in ten southern provinces since it started a week ago, the Interior Ministry said in a statement. At least 18 people have died and one is missing, it added, with the rains turning roads into rivers, inundating farmland and damaging more than 1,500 schools in the region. The downpour is expected to persist for at least two more days, according to Thailand’s Meteorological Department, which warned of flash floods.“The situation is very bad today and tomorrow. It’s still raining heavily,” said Junjuda Pornsri, a meterological official.Military bases across the region have been mobilised to help evacuate flood victims, provide temporary shelters and distribute emergency aid, the government said Saturday. In hard-hit Nakhon Si Thammarat province, two army helicopters were deployed to airlift food to families trapped inside their homes in Cha-uat district.Bapha Suthiphanya, a 60-year-old who has spent the past three nights in a makeshift government shelter in the district, said she was forced to evacuate her home after the waters rose above her head.“I was so shocked and scared. I’ve never seen water like this and I also can not swim,” she told AFP.Peak tourist seasonThe monsoon rains are unusually heavy for this time of year in Thailand, which normally sees a three-month stretch of relatively dry and cool weather starting in November. It is high season for tourists who flock to the kingdom’s island resorts, powering a crucial sector of the economy. But the deluge has already disrupted beach holidays in several traveller hotspots, including the popular islands of Samui and Phangan.Hundreds of tourists have had their flights delayed, while train and bus services on the mainland have also been suspended.Yet some travellers are refusing to let the storm stop the fun, with photos doing the rounds on social media of tourists coasting through flooded streets on pool floats, sipping drinks.“Some tourists are enjoying the flooding, they’re taking pictures and going swimming,” said Nongyao Jirundorn, a tourism official on Samui island.Neighbouring Malaysia was also hit by severe flooding earlier this week, with thousands stranded in relief centres in two northeastern states. But by Saturday, the number of evacuees in Kelantan and Terengganu had dropped to about 13,500, from almost 23,000 Wednesday, as weather conditions improved and authorities forecast less rainfall over the weekend.Prime Minister Najib Razak visited Kelantan on Saturday and met with people seeking shelter at a relief centre.
Mirza Fakhrul Islam AlamgirBNP on Monday voiced frustration over prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s comment on the 11th parliamentary polls, saying it has manifested the government’s intention of establishing one-party rule instead of ensuring an inclusive election.Talking to reporters after attending a programme at Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) auditorium, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said the nation has got disappointed with Sheikh Hasina’s press conference comments as she turned down people’s main demand of holding the next polls under a non-party administration.”The prime minister is pursuing a path of establishing a one-party rule. We didn’t find her intention of accepting people’s verdict. She also has no plan to take steps for creating a level-playing field and equal scope for all the parties to ensure a participatory election,” he said. The BNP leader alleged that the government has again started arresting BNP leaders and activists across the country to hold a lopsided election. “A fair election can’t be held if you (Awami League) carry out unilateral campaign by arresting opposition leaders and activists.”Fakhrul said people had an expectation that the prime minister at her Sunday’s press conference would come up with some positive comments on creating a democratic atmosphere for holding a credible election in the greater interest of people, but she has failed to do so.”The prime minister’s comments over people’s rights and the national election have frustrated the entire nation. Holding a fair election under an impartial government is now people’s main demand, but she has rejected it as she said everything will happen as per the constitution,” he observed. The BNP leader said the constitution is a manmade document, and it can be amended anytime in people’s interest. “You (govt) have repeatedly amended the constitution to protect your own interests.”On Sunday, prime minister Sheikh Hasina at a press conference said she will neither take any step for bringing BNP to the election nor obstruct it from joining the polls. “There’s no question of holding discussions with them (BNP), no matter who says what.”She also turned down BNP’s demand of holding the next polls under a non-party administration, saying Bangladesh will follow the system practised in India and Britain. The press conference was arranged to brief the media about the outcomes of her just-concluded visit to Nepal for attending the 4th BIMSTEC summit.Sought his comment on the prime minister’s refusal to hold any dialogue with BNP, Fakhrul said she did the same in 2012-13, but finally forced to invite Khaleda Zia for talks. He also said they will unite people and realise their all demands by foiling the government’s all ‘evil designs’. “People are our strength.”Earlier, speaking at Youth Forum’s Bangladesh Youth Parliament programme at the SCBA auditorium, Fakhrul urged the young generation to come up to take the country forward, and build a happy prosperous and democratic Bangladesh. He criticised the government for what he said repressing those students who waged movements seeking quota reform and safe roads.Fakhrul urged the youth to turn around braving all obstacles to take the country to the right track.

There are several goods including fish and onion which need to be imported from other states. There will not be much effect if the truck strike is withdrawn within the next 48 hours. As a topic, time management is about as exciting as watching flies buzz around a no-pest strip. But would you be interested in learning about time management from someone with only months to live? The time management expert in this case was Randy Pausch, a computer science professor at Carnegie Mellon who passed away on July 25 at age 47 from pancreatic cancer. Along with his now-famous “last lecture” about achieving your childhood dreams, Pausch also delivered a lively, inspiring speech on time management to the University of Virginia School of Engineering and Applied Science in November 2007. You can watch a video of the lecture or read the transcript.Pausch’s comments weren’t revolutionary, and he admitted to adapting some of his points from Stephen Covey’s The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and Kenneth Blanchard and Spencer Johnson’s The One Minute Manager. But Pausch’s talk combined practicality, compassion and self-effacing humor, peppered with the wisdom and bravery of a man whose days were numbered. I highly recommend his speech to anyone who feels time-starved–and who doesn’t these days?By now you’re probably wondering why I’m writing about Pausch and his speech in a column called “Mobile Computing.” The reason: Efficient time management is especially challenging for mobile professionals. You spend a lot of time in airports, in the air, or driving long distances. In addition to these time constraints, you’re got the constant waves of e-mail, voice mail, and other interruptions everyone else has. So it’s more challenging–and therefore more important–for mobile professionals to maximize their time. If you don’t, you forfeit time you could have spent with people you love, something Pausch understood all too well. Here are some tips Pausch offered in his talk, along with a few of my own.Use Multiple MonitorsSet up multiple computer monitors on your office desktop, Pausch recommended. He had three screens connected to his computer. One displayed his To-Do list; on the middle monitor was his e-mail program; and on the third, he displayed his calendar.Pausch argued that you save time by not having to toggle between multiple programs all day on one screen. Having all that screen real estate is like “the difference between working on a desk.and trying to get work done on the little tray on an airplane,” Pausch said. Most laptop users can easily connect one or more external monitors to achieve this effect. Read “Step-by-Step: A Three-Screen Workstation for $230 or Less” for tips and how-to advice. Also read fellow PCW contributing editor Steve Bass’s blog, “Dual Monitors–The Only Way To Go.”Encourage Callers to Leave E-MailPausch’s outgoing voice mail message used to say, “Hi, this is Randy, please send me e-mail.” The idea was to minimize the frequency and length of daily interruptions. That’s good advice. I would add that encouraging callers to leave e-mail instead of voice mail can save mobile professionals time on the road. Instead of having to check both voice mail and e-mail, you could often just check e-mail (provided you’ve got an e-mail-capable phone). Also, it’s much faster to read the typical e-mail than to listen to the typical voice mail.Services like GotVoice and Vonage Visual Voicemail convert voice mails into transcribed e-mail. I’ve tested these two services, and I recommend them, for the most part.Reclaim ‘Down Time’Pausch’s oncologist recommended he maintain an exercise routine. So Pausch spent an hour a day riding his bike, as often as possible. Keenly aware that this would be time away from his family, Pausch often spent that hour on his cell phone, getting work done. In fact, Pausch’s did much of the work on his book, The Last Lecture, during those hour-long bike rides.Pausch’s bike rides raise an interesting question we should all ponder: How can we reclaim time that would otherwise be unproductive? There are lots of ways to do this, and just as many tools. For example, one tool I’ve come to rely on is a Sony digital voice recorder. I will sometimes dictate parts of this column into my Sony ICD-MX20 while taking a brisk 45-minute walk. When I’m back in my office, I connect the recorder to my PC and launch Dragon NaturallySpeaking speech recognition software. The software does a great job of transcribing my recordings into text (unless there was a lot of background noise while I was dictating). The text is added to a Microsoft Word file.Stay Focused on What’s ImportantI’ll leave you with Pausch’s conclusion to his time-management talk.”The last thing is.make a note for 30 days from today.and ask ‘What have I changed?’ If [you] haven’t changed anything, then we still had a pleasant hour together. If you have changed things, then you’ll probably have a lot more time to spend with the ones you love. And that’s important. Time is all we have. And you may find one day you have less than you think.”Contributing Editor James A. Martin offers tools, tips, and product recommendations to help you make the most of computing on the go. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is one of those things a lot of people talk about — it’s something that not only can increase your traffic and your website rank in keywords, but eventually will lead to more sales. And who doesn’t want more sales?Related: 10 Tips for Combining SEO and Content MarketingThe problem is, with so many people talking about SEO, there are many strategies floating around as to what is the best way to go about implementing SEO on your website.Sure, the task at hand sounds very easy at first, but using the wrong strategy will lead you to waste time and money and possibly get you in trouble with Google — which is something you definitely do not want.To make things easier for yourself, below is a guide that essentially explains what you should be looking for in an SEO strategy. What makes one strategy better than another? Why should you ignore some strategies completely? Here is the first step to becoming an expert at discerning what strategy may work over another. What are the main features of any SEO Strategy? When it comes to SEO, you need to be aware of two main components:On-page SEOOff-page SEOOn-page SEOThis type of SEO is done to your website directly; basically, it involves multiple parts of your website in determining search engine rankings. For the most part, you can make on-page SEO changes yourself, using the following list:Page contentTitle TagsMeta descriptionsHeadingsURL structureLoading time on pagesInternal linkingSchema* (I highly recommend adding this into your website)The purpose of on-page SEO is to ensure that your website is readable by search engines; the easier it is to read the structure and content of your website, the better you will ultimately rank.Related: 5 Ways to Optimize Local Search Results and Compete With the Big GuysSchema is important for your on-page SEO, and you will probably hear the word in conversation with anyone that works with SEO; if you don’t, show him or her the boot! You will also likely be confused as to what Schema really is (outside of sounding really cool): Schema is a specific vocabulary of tags that you add to your HTML to improve how your page is represented in search engine result pages (SERPs). By adding Schema to your website’s HTML, you’ll be enhancing how the snippets of information will be displayed in SERPs. You’ll also make it easier for Google, Yahoo and Bing to understand what your website/page is about.Making it easier for the search engines gives you a better chance of ranking higher.Major TipsMake sure your website loads within three seconds.Make all your images web friendly.Activate Gzip Compression and implement a content delivery network (CDN) into your website.Make sure that the first word in your title tags is a keyword.Off-page SEOOff-page SEO occurs off your website, hence the name. It includes:Link buildingSocial media sharesThere are a few more tactics employed in off-page SEO, but the two mentioned are among the more popular methods, with link building being by far the most important strategy.Off-page SEO, especially link building, is something that needs to be done right, but a lot of people take shortcuts which negatively impact their website. In life, there are no shortcuts, and the same rule applies to SEO.In fact, link-building quality is extremely important, more so than the quantity of links. Therefore, creating high-quality content is important, in order to draw in users from other websites, to link to you.You should not be buying links; that will be only a temporary solution. And Google will ultimately penalize you for trying to manipulate the system. To avoid any problems with the search engine giant while trying to improve the SEO for your website, grow your network organically. This involves reaching out to various contacts you have in your industry. When you reach out to people, they may agree to point a link toward your website. You can also have people do guest posts on your site, and do the same on their sites, filling your articles with keywords that will ultimately direct back to your website. En route, remember that you do not want to guest post or have links pointing from just “anywhere.” The website of origin needs to be reputable for the effort involved to have a positive effect. There are other link-building strategies outside of guest posting and reaching out to your contacts. Another one involves directory submissions. But I say that with some trepidation, ever since Google began going after directories. Specifically, it went after spam-like directories. Fortunately, Google does like directories edited by humans. In this context, directories like JoeAnt, Yahoo Directory and DMOZ are all worth submitting to.Local Directories, otherwise known as local citation, present another great strategy. So, submit your business on local directories like:Google My BusinessBing Places for BusinessYelpYP.comThere are many more great local directories to use. They are all a great way for the search engines to learn more about you.How to calculate ROI on your SEO expenditureAs with any marketing effort, it all comes down to whether or not you can make money. With SEO, calculating your ROI comes down to directly knowing how much your SEO efforts are costing you, and how much the total value of your sale(s) has been.To begin the process of checking your ROI, and assuming you use Google Analytics (the most popular analytics tool online), first go to the acquisition tab (sidebar) in Google Analytics. Next, select “channels” to view the traffic generated by each channel. You will want to view organic results, as that will consist of the traffic from all search engines. Now, if you have Google Goals active, you will be able to see revenue/lead conversions directly generated from the organic search. If you don’t have that feature active, you will have to manually calculate the results. You can use the simple formula below to calculate your ROI as well:ROI = (Revenue from SEO Efforts – Cost of SEO Project)/ Cost of SEO Project x 100 percentROI = ($25,000 – $10,000)/ 10,000 x 100 percentROI = 150 percentThis means that the return is 2.5 times the investment. Realistically, for any SEO project, you want to see at least 2 times the return on your investment. So, there you have it: a comprehensive guide on to what to look for in identifying the best SEO Strategy. Hopefully, when you look into SEO for your own business, these tips will help you determine whether or not your SEO specialist knows what he or she is doing.Related: Do Keywords Still Matter?
