Both players were short of fitness when they joined the club two weeks ago. Loanee Timothy Fosu-Mensah is once again available, having missed out against parent club Manchester United, so the injured Alfie Mawson is Fulham’s only expected absentee.West Ham won 2-0 away to Fulham in December and are hoping to complete a league double against the Cottagers for the time since the 2008-09 season. Fulham won their first Premier League game away to West Ham in 2001 but they are winless in nine subsequent league visits (D4, L5).Burnley vs Tottenham HotspursTurf Moor, Burnley Saturday, 23-02-2019 @3:15pmBurnley wingers Robbie Brady and Johann Berg Gudmundsson are both fit despite missing the win at Brighton with muscle problems. Midfielder Steven Defour remains sidelined with a calf injury.Tottenham striker Harry Kane and full-back Ben Davies are back in training after recovering from respective ankle and groin problems and could feature. Danny Rose has been suffering from illness and will be monitored, while Dele Alli remains sidelined.Burnley are winless in their last nine league and cup games against Tottenham. The Clarets beat Spurs 4-2 on the final day of the 2009-10 season, but that is their only top-flight win against Tottenham in the past 44 years. Spurs have kept clean sheets in each of their last three visits to Turf Moor. This fixture could see Mike Dean become the first referee to show 100 red cards in the Premier League.Tottenham have won all 16 of their Premier League games this season against sides currently outside the top eight. They are chasing their 12th league away win – which would be their highest total in a single season since a similar tally in 1984-85. Spurs have scored a league-high 12 Premier League goals from outside the penalty area this season, while Burnley have conceded a league-high 12 from that range. They have lost their last two away games in all competitions: at Chelsea in the Carabao Cup and at Crystal Palace in the FA Cup.Bournemouth vs WolvesVitality Stadium, DorsetSaturday, 23-02-2019 @6pmBournemouth remain without injured pair Callum Wilson and David Brooks, while Junior Stanislas faces a fitness test on a thigh problem. Star midfielder Ruben Neves, who featured as a substitute last weekend, is set to reclaim his place in the starting line-up.Wolves beat Bournemouth 2-0 at Molineux in December and can record their first league double against the Cherries. Bournemouth have never lost a home league game against Wolves, winning two and drawing one of the three previous matches.Newcastle United vs Huddersfield TownSt. James Park, Newcastle Upon TyneSaturday, 23-02-2019 @6pmNewcastle are looking to do the league double over Huddersfield for the first time since 1964-65. Huddersfield’s only victory in their past 11 away league matches at St James’ Park came in the Championship in August 2016 (D5, L5). This is the 50th top-flight match between the sides.Newcastle United midfielder Jonjo Shelvey is available for the first time in seven weeks after recovering from a recurring thigh injury. Ki Sung-yueng, Paul Dummett and Joselu are also fit, while Miguel Almiron could make his first Newcastle start.Huddersfield goalkeeper Jonas Lossl and defender Chris Lowe are in contention to return after missing the defeat by Arsenal because of illness. Marc Albrighton and Daniel Amartey are long-term absentees.Crystal Palace defenders Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Martin Kelly have been ruled out because of injuries. Stuart Armstrong, who has had a minor calf problem, is also fit again.Arsenal are unbeaten in 12 Premier League home games, winning six in a row ahead of Sunday. The Gunners have conceded 999 Premier League goals – only seven teams have so far conceded 1,000. Fulham are the only club to have kept fewer Premier League clean sheets this season than Arsenal, whose four have all come at home. Arsenal have come from behind to earn 12 points this season – second only to Leicester’s tally of 13. Alexandre Lacazette could become the first Arsenal player to score in four consecutive Premier League home matches since Robin van Persie netted in five in a row from December 2011 to March 2012. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has scored 25 goals and provided eight assists in 38 Premier League appearances, and has scored six goals in his last six home league games.Man United vs LiverpoolOld Trafford, ManchesterSunday, 24-02-2019 @5:05pmManchester United are optimistic that Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial will be fit after respective hamstring and groin injuries. The record points total for a manager in their first 10 games in charge of a Premier League side is also 25, set by Guus Hiddink with Chelsea. David De Gea has kept 99 clean sheets in the Premier League. He could become the 15th different keeper to record 100, and just the seventh to do so with a single club. Paul Pogba has scored eight goals and provided five assists in his last nine Premier League games. He could become the first United player to score in five consecutive home league fixtures since Robin van Persie in 2013.Liverpool have lost just once in this season’s Premier League – and that was against leaders Manchester City. But they are winless in their last seven away fixtures against sides starting the day in the top four. The Reds have scored in every away match in this season’s Premier League. They have conceded just eight away goals in the division this campaign – and 15 in total – fewer than any other team. Mohamed Salah has scored 49 Premier League goals for Liverpool – if he scores in this game, he will have 50 in just 63 games, making him the fastest player to reach the milestone for a single club. Sadio Mane could become the fifth Liverpool player to score in five consecutive Premier League matches. Jurgen Klopp has not won at Old Trafford in any of three of his visits there as a manager (D2, L1).Comments last_img read more

South Africa’s competitive advantage in the developing world

first_imgWhen the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) published its Human Development Report in 2013, it contained powerful insights about the increasingly important role developing countries, such as South Africa and Brazil, are playing in the 21st century.A WEF finding notes that South Africa’s infrastructure is the best developed in the region. (Image: SA Tourism)Miller Matola, CEO of Brand South AfricaThe South (developing nations and emerging markets) are responsible for half the world’s economic output according to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). To illustrate the shift in global economic power, the UNDP points out that the combined GDP of eight developing countries – Argentina, Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Mexico, South Africa and Turkey – equals the GDP of the United States. The implication, in the opinion of the UNDP, is that developing and emerging markets have become major drivers of economic growth and forces of change in the developing world. These changes have made South Africa an important economy in the changing global, and by extension geopolitical, climate. That South Africa is able to benefit is down to policy decisions guided by long-term socioeconomic vision of the government. Our success, in terms of its global perception and rankings in key influential indices – such as the World Economic Forum Global Competitiveness Report, the World Bank Ease of Doing Business Index, the World Economic Forum Travel and Tourism Index – could set a benchmark for other emerging countries to follow.Ongoing improvementA study of these research reports show a pattern of South Africa matching and outperforming other peer developing countries. These indices – in critical areas of national competency – are important indicators to utilise in the process of positioning South Africa as a reliable trade partner, and attractive investment destination. As South Africa heads towards celebrating 20 years of democracy, the country occupies an increasingly strong position globally. We remain a developing nation, a work in progress. However this continuing improvement is attributable to strong and highly focused policies that support the country’s regional and global aspirations. In the context of developing nations, global economic indicators highlight South Africa’s unique competitive strengths. These are being leveraged to good effect to enhance the country’s standing in the global marketplace. The country’s competitiveness, when measured against other developing nations, and inclusion in the Brics grouping is testament to this.Ease of doing businessThe most recent World Economic Forum’s Global Competitiveness Index ranks the country’s financial services sector, banks and stock exchange as the top global performers, while the country places 15th globally for the quality of its air transport infrastructure.Furthermore, South Africa, if compared to the other Brics nations, comes first in five of the 10 criteria the World Bank uses to assess ease of doing business:starting a business, dealing with construction permits, getting credit, protecting investors, and paying taxes. These indices are reassuring to foreign direct investors and instils confidence that the country is open for business. Investors are reassured that the country offers business-friendly environment where new trade, investment, and related economic interactions can be fostered. The 2013 World Bank Ease of Doing Business Index recognizes the government’s commitment to creating a business friendly environment. South Africa ranks first among Brics nations in six critical criteria. As a nation that offers several competitive advantages, an open business environment is an important feature to utilise as a selling point for South Africa as a business destination. The country can make a strong business case to attract trade partners, investment, and clients from fellow Brics members.New government policies introduced now make starting a business in the country easier than ever, by implementing new company law that eliminates the requirement to reserve a company name and simplifies the incorporation documents. South Africa has also made transferring property less costly and more efficient by reducing the transfer duty and introducing electronic filing.Government policy addresses the need to decrease the time, cost, and red tape companies have to deal with to get products to port and shipped to international markets. (Image: Clive Reid)In addition, a new reorganisation process has been introduced to facilitate the rehabilitation of financially distressed companies. South Africa has also improved its performance on the trading across borders rank. In the same World Bank Index, South Africa has significantly improved its rankings (by 29 positions), due to the roll-out of government policy that addresses the need to decrease the time, cost, and red tape companies have to deal with to get products to port and shipped to international markets.Travel and tourismSouth Africa is also praised for its government policies, rules and regulations relating to travel and tourism, and their conduciveness to the sector’s development. The country now ranks 29th out of 140 countries globally in the World Economic Forum’s Travel and Tourism Index, indicating that it has been making steady improvements in this area over the past few assessments.South Africa ranks third in the Sub-Saharan Africa region after Seychelles (first) and Mauritius (second). Other WEF findings indicate South Africa as high as 17th place for its natural resources, and 58th for cultural resources. This, according to WEF, is due primarily to the country’s many World Heritage sites, rich fauna, creative industries, and the many international fairs and exhibitions hosted. The latter can be interpreted as a strong selling point for the country, with communications implications. The wealth of cultural experiences South Africa can offer, adds to its tourism appeal. (Image: SA Tourism)A further positive finding WEF indicates is that South Africa’s infrastructure is well developed for the region, directly supporting the growth of the travel and tourism trade, with air transport infrastructure ranked 43rd, and a particularly good assessment of railroad quality (46th) and road quality (42nd).The golden thread that ties together and underpins all of these world ranking achievements is the strength and innovative nature of its government policies.  from the National Development Plan to the National Infrastructure Plan. Such strong government policy making, embodied in the National Development Plan and the National Infrastructure Plan, and implementation sends a clear message to the world that South Africa is open for business and is a destination of choice for investment, based on solid and trusted fundamentals. This is a strategic, best practice approach that could be replicated for the benefit of fellow emerging market countries around the world.Would you like to use this article in your publication or on your website? HAIR TOOLS Butterfly Hair Salon Section Clamps/Clips X12 PURPLE – The clips that I received were not purple but were

first_imgIncredibly satisfied with head jog clips. Seriously nice to glimpse atcame extremely speedily by deliverywould buy yet again :).Does what it claims on the tin. I have very long thick hair and these did the task. Essential clips but they do the work and for a cut price price tag.I am genuinely happy with these. While they do glimpse a tiny inexpensive they are quite robust and unlikely to crack conveniently. I am seventeen and use these just about every time i do my hair and they do a excellent position of keeping it back. Came specifically a 7 days soon after id requested mine. I purchased them on a thursday and they came the following thursday. Purpose for 4 star is for the reason that you get what your compensated for definitely, there is very little amazing about them but for the selling price, i wouldn’t doubt them.Bought these to go with a crimper i bought for my grandaughters birthday. They are robust and long lasting. Are not able to consider how low-cost they ended up. Generally you only get what you spend for, so i was expecting something cheap and tacky, but it is rather the reverse. The clips that i received were being not purple but have been. The clips that i obtained were being not purple but have been black, nevertheless they do the task. Tiny little bit dissapointed as was searching forward to the purpleupdate – the company have now despatched me the purple clips and they are good.Reviews from purchasers :Adore them! Gorgeous colour, gorgeous quality!I like to use them to section my hair when straightening I really like the grip on these clips but the only fact The clips that I received were not purple but were Great cheapie clipsSO CHEAP AND IT WORKSPretty nice grips which certainly aid me divide my hair when making use of the hairdryer or brush styler. Brilliant and uncomplicated to use would certainly suggest them.I like to use them to section my hair when straightening. I purchased these ages back (assumed i reviewed them but i have completed so in the earlier and even now get asked to re-critique). I like to use them to section my hair when straightening (although that is some thing i not often do now) i have had no trouble with them and would endorse them, although for standard use (just clipping your hair up) they are not wide adequate for my thick curly hair. But they meet the function for what i purchased them for.I genuinely like the grip on these clips but the only actuality. I truly like the grip on these clips but the only simple fact i gave it 3 stars is because they are deadly the pointy detail on the clip where by you maintain it from is sharper than a knife i have had a lot of scratches in the earlier so i stopped working with them. They are a good excellent and have a sturdy clip. They have manufactured sectioning my hair for curling, dying and so forth. The only draw back is that some of the tooth are misshapen but this will not have an effect on the grip. Wonderful merchandise in particular contemplating the low rate.I wouldnt dress in them out, but they are terrific for sectioning hair. Not confident id use them for a baby as they are a little bit sharp, but im content with them. There is no motive not to purchase this solution other than purple not currently being your color. It’s soooo cheap and it performs and does not split quickly. The butterfly hair clips are a good colour they are fantastic high quality not easily snapped the grip a fantastic amount of money of hair in them securely they are a good selling price and effectively worth it.I cannot praise these clips high adequate. I brought these to clip my hair up although i am straightening it.This is a wonderful solution,i am not a hairdresser but have sat at sufficient salons to see these becoming utilised. They are simple to use & clip your hair back whilst you dry the rest of it.Been accomplishing my personal hair, my nana’s and my mum’s for some time, but by no means experienced the appropriate clips to aid me section. These are incredibly very well priced for what they are, they usually are not low-cost and don’t break as well easily, like other clips i’ve purchased. If you usually model your hair section by section, i propose these. These are definitely solid for drying your hair in sections. Well happy with them, they will last me for ages .The clips have been excellent worth but postage charges not. The clips are great but would be reluctant to get a little something so low-cost following time as the postage costs cancelled out the superior benefit. I need to have ordered other goods to make it much better benefit.I bought these to aid my daughter when she is dying her hair. She does it herself and i know these clips make her daily life much easier. These clips are good and a discount price. I initially acquired them to clip my thick hair when hair drying but am also now employing them as an every day clip as they are so fantastic.Loved them they do preserve you hair in put there truly powerful as i have been disapointed with the ones i obtain in the outlets if i realized they where by this potent i would of bought additional.Acquired these for a mate to use on my hair as she is a hair dresser and did my perm as a favour at house so i experienced to provide the ‘kit’ as she typically works in a salon and only has minimal tools at household. She said they had been high-quality and i glimpse excellent so guess we had been the two happy.last_img read more

Mining and Quarrying Top-Performing Sector

first_img The Planning Institute of Jamaica (PIOJ) is reporting that mining and quarrying grew by an estimated 25.5 per cent from January to March 2018, to emerge as the top-performing sector over the quarter, compared to the corresponding period last year. The Planning Institute of Jamaica (PIOJ) is reporting that mining and quarrying grew by an estimated 25.5 per cent from January to March 2018, to emerge as the top-performing sector over the quarter, compared to the corresponding period last year.Director General, Dr. Wayne Henry, said the sector’s out-turn, to a large extent, spurred the goods producing industry’s estimated three per cent growth over the review period, which also saw the services industry growing by approximately 0.7 per cent.Dr. Henry was speaking at the PIOJ’s quarterly media briefing at the agency’s New Kingston head office on Tuesday (May 22).He said the mining and quarrying sector’s out-turn resulted from a 28.7 per cent increase in bauxite production. This, he pointed out, reflected higher alumina and crude bauxite production.“Alumina production was 27.1 per cent higher, reflecting the resumption of productive activity at the JISCO-Alpart alumina refinery since October to December 2017. Crude bauxite production grew by 27.7 per cent due to more conducive weather conditions,” he explained.Other sectors under the goods producing industry recording growth were construction, up 1.5 per cent; manufacturing, up one per cent; and agriculture, forestry and fishing, 0.5 per cent.Dr. Henry said growth in the building construction component was due to an increase in residential and non-residential developments, reflecting a 286.6 per cent increase in housing starts by public institutions to 1,527 units, of which the National Housing Trust (NHT) accounted for 1,512 units.Additionally, he said there was an increase in the volume and value of NHT mortgages by 6.2 per cent and 10.9 per cent, respectively.“The estimated growth in the ‘other component’ (of the construction sector) was facilitated by higher capital expenditure recorded by the National Works Agency, which disbursed $3 billion on the construction and rehabilitation of roads, relative to $2.2 billion in the corresponding quarter of 2017; Jamaica Public Service, which disbursed $1.7 billion, relative to $890 million (last year); and the Port Authority of Jamaica, which disbursed $1.1 billion, up from $624.5 million,” the Director General said.Meanwhile, hotels and restaurants, with an estimated 1.6 per cent out-turn, was the dominant sector under the services industry. This out-turn was spurred by a 6.6 per cent increase in arrivals, to 1,298,674 visitors. This was reflected in stopover arrivals, up 6.8 per cent, and cruise passenger arrivals, up 65 per cent.Dr. Henry also indicated that visitor expenditure is estimated to have grown by 8.5 per cent to US$825.3 million. He pointed out that the out-turn for 2017/18 fiscal year growth was estimated at 0.8 per cent, with the goods producing industry recording 0.3 per cent and services, 0.9 per cent. The industries recording the largest growth were mining and quarrying, up 4.7 per cent; hotels and restaurants, up four per cent; construction, 1.2 per cent; and manufacturing, 1.1 per cent.Dr. Henry said the growth prospects for April to June 2018 quarter are “generally positive” based on the anticipated strengthening of the performance of most industries, relative to the similar quarter of 2017.“Baseline economic growth is expected to be in the range of 1.5 per cent to 2.5 per cent,” he indicated. Story Highlights Dr. Henry said growth in the building construction component was due to an increase in residential and non-residential developments, reflecting a 286.6 per cent increase in housing starts by public institutions to 1,527 units, of which the National Housing Trust (NHT) accounted for 1,512 units. Supreme Court hearing on energy projects draws large crowd

first_img(Demonstrators outside of the Supreme Court of Canada Wednesday.)APTN National NewsWhen Cedar Parker was in Seattle for Black Friday he says someone tried to rob him leaving him bruised and with cuts on his face.Parker said Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is trying to do rob him, too.“The government is trying to rob me …of my future for a material object,” said Parker, a member Tsleil-Waututh Nation in B.C., of the Trudeau government’s approval of two pipelines Tuesday. The thug in Seattle may have roughed him up but Parker is more frightened by Trudeau. He was among dozens of demonstrators Wednesday at the Supreme Court of Canada rallying in support of two cases being heard at the country’s highest court. The Supreme Court is hearing arguments on a case that could lead to a major overhaul of the way the federal government consults Indigenous communities on energy projects. Two cases are to be heard together to essentially settle an argument: Does the National Energy Board (NEB) execute the Crown’s duty to consultation with Indigenous communities through its public consultation process? The Chippewas of the Thames First Nation in Ontario and the Inuit community of Clyde River in Nunavut argue it doesn’t. The NEB approved both projects. The NEB is not a Crown agent, but part of the executive branch of the federal government, and makes recommendations to Ottawa on whether energy projects should proceed. The federal cabinet then gives final approval. In the case of the Chippewas, located near London, Ont., they opposed Enbridge’s interest in expanding and reversing the flow on a large portion of an existing oil pipeline that stretches approximately 830 km from Sarnia, Ont. to Montreal, Que. The section of pipeline in question is known as Line 9B, and was constructed in 1975.In Nunavut, the NEB approved Petroleum Geo-Services to conduct seismic testing in the waters of Baffin Bay and Davis Strait off the coast of Baffin Island in Nunavut. The testing would happen 24 hours a day, five months per year for five years, something the Hamlet of Clyde River and other interested parties oppose.Residents feel the testing is harmful to marine mammals, including narwhal, ringed seal and the bowhead whale – something the Inuit rely on for their food and culture.Wednesday’s rally was planned weeks in advance but was strengthened by Trudeau approving two pipeline expansion projects coming out of Alberta – Kinder Morgan’s Trans Mountain from Alberta to Burnaby, B.C. and Enbridge’s Line 3 from Hardisty, Alta., through Neche, ND, to Superior, Wis.Trudeau rejected Enbridge’s proposed Northern Gateway project, which would also have moved bitumen from Alberta to the B.C. coast.Protests are already being planned by environment and climate activists, as well as First Nations and Indigenous people who oppose the expansions.Tsleil-Waututh has vowed to stop the Trans Mountain expansion.news@aptn.calast_img read more
