BY EMMET RUSHE: This is part 3 of my series on ‘How to lose weight and keep it off – for good’This week, we will cover cardio and whether or not it is necessary for fat loss.Whenever people begin to think about losing weight, the first thing that usually springs to mind, is some sort of low-intensity cardio exercise. Running, the cross trainer, treadmill, stationary bike etc.; all of these things have become the go-to things to do for weight loss for the general public, and why wouldn’t they?Pick up any magazine aimed at weight loss and you will usually see a picture of one or two females, who are in shape, looking very happy as they head out for a run.Is there anything wrong with this? No.Is running the best, most efficient way to burn fat? No. Cardio is a tool that should be used as needed. To build your entire weight loss exercise regime solely around cardio based exercise would be a mistake. So why do so many pick cardio? The thing about cardio that makes it better for almost everybody, other than its easy learning curve, is that it’s very low impact – your body can go for hours and hours, day after day, and not get worn out. If you have the desire and willpower, you can burn calories all day long. The problem with low impact cardio like this is there is very little Exercise Post Oxygen Consumption (EPOC) with cardio, which means you only burn calories when exercising and not much happens in the way of burning calories afterwards. The other downside to cardio is there is very little in the form of muscle gain from it.I know that many of you won’t see this as a problem. You are probably reading this thinking ‘as long as I lose weight, I don’t care how it comes off’.If this is your train of thought, you could always amputate a limb, or maybe you could shave your head; that should give some weight loss…or how about you try and catch that stomach flu that is going around? You will lose loads of weight with that sucker. The thing you need to know is you are not looking for ‘weight’ loss, you are actually looking for ‘fat’ loss. Last week, I covered why having more muscle helps you to burn more calories, so check out last week’s article if you missed it.What you need to know is this. Muscle helps you walk up and down stairs and pick things up. Keeping you moving is muscle’s most important function. You don’t want to lose muscle. But muscle can also help you lose fat and stay lean due to increased basal metabolism. In short, you burn more calories doing absolutely nothing, if you have more lean mass.As I also referred to last week, a study on diet plus exercise found that; The weight training group lost 21.1 pounds of fat (44% and 35% more than the diet and aerobic exercise only groups respectively). Basically, the addition of aerobic training didn’t result in any real world significant fat loss over dieting alone.Does this mean that you shouldn’t do cardio based training for fat loss? No it doesn’t.Remember: above all else, your diet is fundamental. Eat poorly and none of the above matters. Eat right, eat real foods, and exercise, and you’ll get better.Do cardio if:You really enjoy the treadmill or elliptical, or you just really like running! You have all the time in the world to lose fat. (You will need it to burn enough calories)You’re just getting started and don’t really know what you’re doing. What you have to realise is that it is NOT the best way for you to burn fat and get the body you want. That’s it for this week, next week I will cover HIIT training and what the actual truth is regarding it and fat loss.Any questions, contact me through the link below. #TrainSmarthttps://www.facebook.com/pages/Rushe-Fitness/120518884715118EMMET RUSHE’S FITNESS COLUMN: HOW TO LOSE WEIGHT AND KEEP IT OFF – PART 3 was last modified: February 9th, 2015 by John2Share this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)Tags:cardiodonegalemmet rushefitness columngymhealthy eatingrushe fitnessweight loss

This fixture could see Mike Dean become the first referee to show 100 red cards in the Premier League.Tottenham have won all 16 of their Premier League games this season against sides currently outside the top eight. They are chasing their 12th league away win – which would be their highest total in a single season since a similar tally in 1984-85. There has not been a red card in any of the last seven Premier League meetings in this fixture.United have won eight of their last nine Premier League matches. They have kept just one clean sheet in their 12 Premier League home games this season, a joint-division low. A seventh successive home fixture without a clean sheet would represent United’s worst top-flight run of conceding since an eight-match streak in 1972. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has won 25 points in his nine league games as United manager. The record points total for a manager in their first 10 games in charge of a Premier League side is also 25, set by Guus Hiddink with Chelsea. David De Gea has kept 99 clean sheets in the Premier League. He could become the 15th different keeper to record 100, and just the seventh to do so with a single club. Paul Pogba has scored eight goals and provided five assists in his last nine Premier League games. He could become the first United player to score in five consecutive home league fixtures since Robin van Persie in 2013.Liverpool have lost just once in this season’s Premier League – and that was against leaders Manchester City. But they are winless in their last seven away fixtures against sides starting the day in the top four. The Reds have scored in every away match in this season’s Premier League. Mohamed Salah has scored 49 Premier League goals for Liverpool – if he scores in this game, he will have 50 in just 63 games, making him the fastest player to reach the milestone for a single club. Sadio Mane could become the fifth Liverpool player to score in five consecutive Premier League matches. Jurgen Klopp has not won at Old Trafford in any of three of his visits there as a manager (D2, L1).Comments

No date has been set for the marketplace lauch but it will evolve from “The Gallery” a feature that provides Sharepoint 2010 users access to templates. In an interview we did at Enterprise 2.0, Christian Finn said Microsoft will offer the marketplace for vendors who want to sell their products through the Sharepoint platform.“We will have a route to market for vendors who want to have applications and add-ons available,” Finn said. Conceptually, Finn said, you think about a marketplace idea. Customers will navigate from the Sharepoint interface to see what web parts are available for a trial period.Finn said that from their perspective, collaboration is mostly on-premise. Customers are starting to move to the cloud. “We are seeing early customers starting to move. When we see that bell curve adoption we will definitely be there.”But collaboration services are increasingly cloud-based. MindTouch, SocialCast, Socialtext and a host of other companies are offering best-of-breed-services.The availability of a marketplace brings up a lot of questions about the role that partners will play with Sharepoint. But it also raises interesting competitive questions about the role of Sharepoint as a cloud-based service. It almost looks like it will be more of a Software-as-a-Servce (SaaS) than the on-premise platform it is today. The Sharepoint application marketplace will evolve out of The Gallery, a resource within Sharepoint 2010 that serves as a central place for templates. Microsoft will initially offer their own web parts through Gallery. Eventually the service will take a different name and migrate to offering partner services. We asked Finn what the model will look like. Will it be pay per use? How will the application marketplace be administered? Finn said most of the details are being worked out in Redmond. The service will have IT safeguards. Finn said that IT managers will have a level of control over what applications users may integrate. What Finn describes sounds similar to application platforms now commercially available. Salesfoce.com is the obvious example. TheirForce.com platform is a full development environment. AppExchange is the platform for building third party applications on Salesforce.com CRM. Dazzle from Citrix also comes to mind. It is an iTunes like service that is all about making IT more consumer friendly. Employees may choose the applications that they want to purchase. The service is set up as a store front that can automatically stream the application on a virtual desktop to a Windows PC, a Mac or an iPhone. Details are few about the application marketplace that will be offered through Sharepoint. But it does point to the increasing significance of third-party applications for the Sharepoint platform and how the service may evolve as cloud computing becomes more prevalent. 3 Areas of Your Business that Need Tech Now Massive Non-Desk Workforce is an Opportunity fo… Cognitive Automation is the Immediate Future of…

By now, photovoltaic (PV) panels are familiar to most Americans. You’ve seen them on your hand-held calculator, on top of illuminated highway signs, and maybe even on your neighbors’ roofs. With PV systems becoming more common, perhaps you’ve been dreaming of making some homemade electricity. The dream is achievable, as long as you own a sunny patch of lawn or an unshaded south-facing rooftop, and as long as you have a bank balance of several thousand dollars.A PV array is made up of rectangular modules (or panels) that measure between 2 and 5 feet on a side. The most common type of PV module has an aluminum frame and a glass cover protecting a collection polycrystalline PV cells. When exposed to light, each PV cell produces 0.5 volt DC — so if you add up the number of cells and divide by 2, you know the voltage of the module. The best performing commercially available PV cells are roughly 20% efficient at converting solar energy into electricity.Unlike polycrystalline PV cells, thin-film (amorphous) PV products are manufactured on a flexible sheet. These thin-film PV products have many applications; for example, they are used to make PV roof shingles and peel-and-stick membranes designed for use on metal roofing. Thin-film PV products have relatively low efficiencies — usually in the range of 10% to 12% — so they require almost twice the area required for a polycrystalline PV array with the same electrical output. Both polycrystalline and thin-film PV arrays produce DC power. This DC electricity can be used directly to charge a battery; in most homes, however, the solar electricity is sent to an inverter that converts the DC power to AC. The inverter’s AC output can then be used directly by the homeowners or fed into the power grid. Most grid-connected PV systems won’t provide any…
Surveillance at the Heart of Smart Cities Donal Power Related Posts How IoT Will Play an Important Role in Traffic … Data-related opportunities await Internet of Things (IoT) entrepreneurs in smart city water programs as top-down utilities allow smaller players to play.Ecopreneurist recounted some of the more interesting ideas to emerge from a recent MIT conference on smart city water issues.Smart water management is seen as a blooming opportunity for eco-startups, with the market expected to grow to $20 billion in 2021 from $8.5 billion in 2016.See also: Can IoT turn back climate change?Driving these opportunities is the emerging trend towards approaching city water utilities from a holistic perspective rather than from the traditional top-down approach. This means that utility managers are now turning to smaller players to boost efficiency and increase value through better use of IoT innovation. This opens the door for opportunities in the area of smart water metering, which can reduce carbon footprints, while enhancing management and operational efficiencies.“Cities need to identify endpoint leakage; gain clarity between leakage, non-revenue water and chargeable consumption; establish consumption patterns; use predictive analytics to regulate supply; and, set up adjustable alarm notifications to predict/prevent end point anomalies,” summarized Ecopreneurist from the conference.Conference speakers cited water leaks as the biggest problem facing city water managers, with leak detection as a critical opportunity area for IoT improvements.“Software can sync with meters and controllers on a customer’s property to remotely control outdoor irrigation use and monitor flow through pipes into a building,” said the article. “The impact can have up to 50% water savings and ongoing, real-time leak detection.”More opportunities in weather forecastingAnother opportunity area is weather anticipation and adjustment, powered by intelligent systems that can think on their own.In order to cope with fast changing weather-driven challenges, such systems will need to redesign themselves minute by minute to maximize efficiencies. And of course new software and hardware developments are enabling data opportunities that were previously unknown.Measuring detailed, time-based information is being powered by technological breakthroughs that enable remote communications and interval data measurement. For consumers, this can create capabilities to monitor water usage via smart sprinklers and faucets. Amid concern over the hefty fines for traffic violations, Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari on Monday said even he has been fined for speeding on the Bandra-Worli sealink in Mumbai. Talking to reporters about the major decisions of the Modi-led government in its first 100 days, Mr. Gadkari said abrogation of Article 370 and bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir was the “most important achievement” of the government. Criminalisation of instant triple talaq and the amended motor vehicles law were some of the big achievements of the Centre, he said.“Even I have paid a fine for speeding on the Bandra-Worli sealink,” Mr. Gadkari said adding that Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and his cabinet collegaue Gen V.K. Singh also got speeding challans. The Motor Vehicles Amendment Act, approved by President Ram Nath Kovind last month, aims at stricter punishment for violation of traffic regulations and to bring discipline on roads.“Passing the MV Act amendment is a big achievement for our government. The high fines will lead to transparency, and (will) not result in corruption,” Mr. Gadkari said.Claiming that overspending on fines has helped people to adhere to traffic rules, Mr. Gadkari said: “For the new over speeding rules all are equal be it lawyers, doctors or politicians. We have increased the fines to save lives of lakhs of motorists.” The minister said road engineering is a reason, along with auto engineering, for the high incidents of accidents in India.Amendment of MV Act will improve road safety and reduce the number of road accidents and lives lost on roads, Mr. Gadkari said.
Vijender Kumar and Mandeep Jangra during a training session in Glasgow. The unprecedented success achieved in the last edition would be hard to replicate this time but a 215-member Indian contingent would nonetheless seek a top-five finish at the 20th Commonwealth Games which begin in Glasgow on Wednesday.India finished second behind Australia with a record 101 medal haul in New Delhi. The Games will have superstar sprinter Usain Bolt of Jamaica and middle and long distance king Mo Farah of England as highlights of the sporting extravaganza.India will be hit hard by the scrapping of archery and tennis and the reduction in the number of medal events in shooting and wrestling.India’s medal tally is expected to reduce drastically from the 101 (38 gold, 27 silver, 36 bronze) in 2010 and anything above 60 can be considered an achievement.India and Canada, who have sent a 265-member team to Glasgow, are expected to fight for third place behind Australia and England.India has returned with nearly 30 medallists from the last Games with the likes of Abhinav Bindra, Gagan Narang, Vijender Singh, Sushil Kumar, Yogeshwar Dutt, Krishna Poonia, Ashish Kumar and Achanta Sharath Kamal set to prove their mettle once again.Shooting is still expected to contribute a major chunk of medals for India despite 18 events being dropped since the last edition. Wrestling could get win at least 10 medals. The men’s and women’s hockey teams are also expected to finish on the podium.India is also set to lose out in athletics, which yielded 12 medals, including two gold, in Delhi. With lack of preparation ahead of the Games and most athletes struggling for form, not much is expected. The country may expect four or five medals with Krishna Poonia and Vikas Gowda (discus throw) and Arpinder Singh (triple jump) among contenders. The women’s 4x400m relay quartet has an outside chance for a medal.advertisementIn badminton, despite the absence of Saina Nehwal, India is expected to do well with PV Sindhu top seeded shuttler in women’s singles. The Games will officially be opened by Queen Elizabeth II at Celtic Park. Indian coaches now allowed at ringsideIndian boxers at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games will now be assisted by their coaches at ringside during their bouts.Kishen Narsi, India’s representative at the International Boxing Association (AIBA), informed that the world body has reversed its earlier decision byallowing Indian coaches to assist pugilists.”The Indian boxers are relieved and excited that Indian coaches will be allowed to second our boxers and be at ringside as per the information communicated by AIBA secretary,” read the mail.AIBA had earlier banned India coaches from ringside without giving any specific reason, but it was learnt that it resulted from confusion after the Indian federation’s exclusion from AIBA’s member list. But the world body seems to have realised that though the Indian federation is not a full member, it has provisional membership and has the right to take coaches to a tournament. The AIBA had already allowed Indian boxers to wear the national jersey, use the Tri-colour and play the national anthem in case one of them wins a gold medal during the CWG. Till then, the boxers were fighting under the AIBA banner ever since the Indian federation was suspended in December 2012. But AIBA had stated that coaches can’t be at ringside, a decision they reversed on Tuesday. The relaxation is only for the CWG as the AIBA has recently directed Boxing India, the provisional group to run the sport, to conduct an election byAugust 15 otherwise the boxers and coaches will face a ban from all AIBA-sanctioned tournaments.Eight men and three women Indian boxers are participating in Glasgow. The boxing competition starts on Friday but the pugilists have reached well inadvance to acclimatise. The men’s team has two practice sessions a day. Women boxers are excited since the discipline is making its debut at the CWG. However, their participation is limited to only – 51kg, 60kg and 75kg. At 2010 CWG, Indian boxers won three gold and four bronze medals.advertisement
