Hart-break: What now for Manchester City keeper ahead of summer of uncertainty?

first_img Joe Hart shows his appreciation to the Torino fans It’s June 10 2016 and Joe Hart is undoubtedly geared up for England’s opening Euro 2016 game against Russia eager to show the world what he’s made of.Fast-forward a year and no one would have predicted how the next 12 months would turn out for the Three Lions number one.England’s Euro 2016 was a disaster, but for Hart it was personally damaging after high-profile errors led to goals in the game against Wales and the Iceland horror show.Plenty thought the former Birmingham City loanee could return to Manchester City and reclaim his form as number one but incoming boss Pep Guardiola had other ideas.Hart couldn’t play well enough with the ball at his feet for the ex-Barcelona manager and, six years after returning from his successful spell at St Andrews to claim City’s number one position from Shay Given, the England keeper was to be shipped out on loan again. This time he went on an Italian adventure and became Torino’s marquee signing for the season. But, while he was much-loved by the fans and didn’t embarrass himself abroad, his form still hasn’t been anywhere near his best.So here we are in the summer of 2017. Manchester City have now signed two goalkeepers, in Claudio Bravo and brand new face Ederson, to take over as starting goalkeeper at the Etihad.Hart’s City spell is most certainly over. But what an earth happens now for the England shot stopper? He is after all a two-time Premier League champion.Time for pastures newObviously the ex-Shrewsbury Town goalkeeper will be looking for a new club this summer but, as was proved in the last summer window, this could be tricky. As a keeper with multiple honours to his name you would imagine a host of bigger clubs would be looking into signing Hart. However, most of the Premier League big boys, and their European counterparts, have their goalkeeping situations sorted.Of the Premier League’s top four you would consider Manchester City to have had the biggest issues in the position last season, with Bravo unable to save a shot for an extended period of time, but Hart is clearly not wanted.Liverpool also had their own goalkeeping problems and, while many think this is still an option for Hart, Jurgen Klopp now seems sold on the abilities of Simon Mignolet and probably hasn’t given up on Loris Karius just yet.Realistically if Hart is going to stay in the Premier League there are only two viable options based on current squads – West Ham and Crystal Palace.Everton had seemed the best bet for Hart with Ronald Koeman juggling between Joel Robles and Maarten Stekelenburg as starter throughout the season, but the Toffees are close to securing Jordan Pickford’s services.West Ham also struggled for consistency in goal and had seemed to be targeting Pickford, but may turn their attentions to Hart if the Sunderland man heads to Goodison.Crystal Palace may also be on the lookout with Steve Mandanda likely to head back to Marseille and Wayne Hennessey not really convincing fully as a Premier League number one.Maybe someone abroad will come in for Hart or maybe Torino will secure another loan deal until a club, who can viably afford the England man, require a keeper.Whichever way you look at it Hart doesn’t have as many options as he might hope.Still England’s main man?Hart has now been undisputed number one of the Three Lions since the 2010 World Cup concluded but, probably for the first time in his international career, he faces tough opposition.Fraser Forster has been close for a while but the real threat to Hart’s position is Stoke City’s Jack Butland. After coming through a year-long injury layoff Butland is back and appears as impressive as he was before he went off injured playing for the national team.At 24 years of age, and performing better than Hart, Butland could become first choice under Gareth Southgate.Tom Heaton’s Premier League form for Burnley means he also has a credible claim and Sunderland’s Pickford could be an absolute star of the future.Looking ahead to the 2018 World Cup it is highly conceivable we see Butland starting, with Pickford as back-up, while Hart could be third choice or out of the squad all together. This summer represents the biggest challenge of Hart’s career as he faces up to an uncertain future at club and international level. If he can get a move and play regularly, chances are he will be in with a good shout of keeping his place as England number one.But Pickford and Butland represent a real threat to the 30-year-old because the fact of the matter is Hart is now England’s past – Butland and Pickford are England’s future. 1last_img read more

(Image: Ikea)Thanks to Design Indaba’s founder, Ravi Naidoo, and Ikea head of design Marcus Engman, this global brand will feature a significant African aesthetic across its range, spotlighting the work of African architects, illustrators and designers.“The creative explosion which is taking place in several cities around Africa right now is something Ikea is curious about. It looks towards democratising design and is happy to be infiltrated by external ideas. In addition, we love its credo: a better everyday life for everyone. Now, urban Africa and our intrepid pan-continental group of reformers, thinkers, makers and activists will also inspire it.”Some of the big names in African design participating in the project include renowned Rwandan architect Christian Benimana and Senegalese fashion designer Selly Raby Kane, whose eclectic, proudly African designs are a favourite of international stars such as Beyoncé and Rihanna.South African knitwear designer Laduma Ngxokolo, with his quirky Xhosa beadwork-inspired creations, is also one of the Ikea collaborators.Another big African name in the world of architecture, Ivorian Issa Diabate, says the project is a chance for the world to see a modern African design aesthetic. “Certain approaches in many urban African environments could benefit or contaminate the international world of design,” he said in a statement on the Design Indaba website. The collection will launch in Ikea stores around the world in 2019. While Ikea does not have much of a presence in Africa, with its only African stores in Morocco and Egypt, Engman says the company will be using this African collaboration as an opportunity to evaluate new markets further south.Read CNN’s full piece on the origins of the Ikea Design Indaba project here.Source: CNN, AFK InsiderWould you like to use this article in your publication or on your website? Dean Foods initiates voluntary reorganization

first_imgShare Facebook Twitter Google + LinkedIn Pinterest This week, Dean Foods Company announced that it and substantially all of its subsidiaries have initiated voluntary Chapter 11 reorganization proceedings in the Southern District of Texas. The Company intends to use this process to protect and support its ongoing business operations and address debt and unfunded pension obligations while it works toward an orderly and efficient sale of the Company.Dean Foods also announced that it is engaged in advanced discussions with Dairy Farmers of America, Inc. (DFA) regarding a potential sale of substantially all assets of the Company. If the parties ultimately reach agreement on the terms of a sale, such transaction would be subject to regulatory approval and would be subject to higher or otherwise better offers in the bankruptcy.Dean Foods is operating in the ordinary course of business and remains focused on providing its customers with wholesome, great-tasting dairy products and the highest levels of quality, service and value. The Company has received a commitment of approximately $850 million in debtor-in-possession (DIP) financing from certain of its existing lenders, led by Rabobank. Following court approval, the Company expects to use the DIP financing, together with cash on hand and operating cash flows, to support its continued operation throughout this process, including payment of employee wages and benefits without interruption and payment to suppliers and vendors in full under normal terms for goods and services provided on or after the filing date.“The actions we are announcing today are designed to enable us to continue serving our customers and operating as normal as we work toward the sale of our business,” said Eric Beringause, who recently joined Dean Foods as president and CEO. “We have a strong operational footprint and distribution network, a robust portfolio of leading national brands and extensive private label capabilities, all supported by approximately 15,000 dedicated employees around the country. Despite our best efforts to make our business more agile and cost-efficient, we continue to be impacted by a challenging operating environment marked by continuing declines in consumer milk consumption. Importantly, we are continuing to provide customers with an uninterrupted supply of high-quality dairy products, as well as supporting our dairy suppliers and other partners.”Beringause joined the company just over three months ago.“I’ve taken a hard look at our challenges, as well as our opportunities, and truly believe we are taking the best path forward. In recent months, we have put in place a new senior management team that not only has considerable experience in the dairy and consumer product industries, but also in executing major turnarounds,” he said. “I am confident we have the right people in place to lead us through this process.”In conjunction with the court-supervised process, Dean Foods has filed a number of customary motions seeking court authorization to continue to support its business operations. The Company expects to receive court approval for all of these requests. The Company also intends to file bidding procedures with the court to conduct a sale in accordance with Section 363 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code and work with its creditors to explore a potential stand-alone plan of reorganization.Additional information is available on the restructuring page of the Company’s website, www.DeanFoodsRestructuring.com.last_img read more
