first_imgDonegal Action for Cancer Care say they are delighted that Minister for Health Leo Varadkar TD has taken their request for a meeting and indeed their serious concerns on board.Betty Holmes of DACC.The group have repeatedly been in contact with the Minister regarding their ongoing concerns regarding the future of Breast Cancer Services for Donegal patients at Letterkenny Hospital. They say that have had confirmation from his office that the Minister for Health has now arranged for his staff to hold a meeting with key parties including the Dept of Health, The HSE, The Cancer Control Programme, The Saolta University Hospital Group and Letterkenny Hospital next Friday 27th Feb in Dublin. Further to this meeting, DACC representatives will then meet with the Dept of Health for an update from this meeting.“This is good news for us in DACC, we have been working away tirelessly to keep the issue of cancer services for Donegal patients on National agendas. It has been a long few weeks but we would have to acknowledge the support of the Minister when he contacted us last Wednesday evening and also the communication from & with his staff” said Betty Holmes of DACC.“We are hopeful that further to next Fridays meeting in Dublin that a solution can be found where Breast Cancer patients will not be in effect forced to travel to Galway when they can be seen at Letterkenny General Hospital. We remind people that it is 308 KM from Malin Town to Galway University Hospital for a service that is and should be available at Letterkenny Hospital.“Why take patients down this long road when a consultant can travel to the hospital in Letterkenny, it just doesn’t make sense and is not in the best interest of the patients. Again we are asking why we can’t have a second Breast Surgeon at Letterkenny Hospital. Despite our concerns we are very thankful to the Minister for Health for arranging this meeting.”  DACC WELCOME HEALTH MINISTER’S SUPPORT FOR BREAST CANCER UNIT was last modified: February 21st, 2015 by StephenShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:Betty HolmesDACCdonegallast_img read more

CTICC gets green makeover

first_imgThe Cape Town International ConventionCentre is getting an extensive greenmakeover. (Image: Rodger Bosch,MediaClub South Africa. For more freephotos, visit the image library.)Janine ErasmusThe Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC), an award-winning building that has been honoured numerous times for its advanced facilities, is about to undergo a R1.4-billion (US$100-million) expansion – one that will turn it into the greenest building in South Africa.Known as Phase 2, the new extension will boast wind turbines to generate its own electricity, a water treatment system, on-site sorting and recycling of waste, and a growing roof, among other environmentally friendly features. When complete, the new-look CTICC will use 40% less electricity per square metre and 90% less potable water, and will send 25% less waste to landfill than its current version. In order to achieve the reduction in power consumption several techniques will be used, such as daylighting, which refers to the controlled placing of windows, skylights and other transparent structures to admit as much natural light as possible and reduce the need for electric lighting. The new wing will also have its own renewable energy sources in the form of solar and wind power generators. With the water treatment plant as well as the planned recycling of rainwater, collected during Cape Town’s fierce winter season, the CTICC will slash its reliance on piped water by a massive 90%.The larger part of the 30 000m2 extension will be dedicated to environmentally friendly services, while an extra 9 500m2 of exhibition space will augment the existing 11 200m2. To encourage the use of green transport, the building will be incorporated into the city’s cycle routes, while extensive bicycle facilities will be available for staff and visitors.Rashid Toefy, CEO of the CTICC holding company Convenco, said that the new wing will feature some of the most progressive environmentally friendly technologies available. “We expect the new building to set some of the best international standards in sustainable building design and management,” he said. “The future of South Africa’s conference industry will be tied to this country’s ability to reduce its carbon footprint.”In fact, added Toefy, the expansion will not only propel Cape Town into the forefront of sustainable building design and management, but will continue to drive the city’s increasing standing as one of the leading business tourism destinations worldwide.Feasibility and economic impact studies were conducted over six months. The expansion will be built on the site of the old Customs House on the other side of the N2 freeway from the present centre, and will overlook Table Bay. Building is estimated to take three to four years.A valuable contributionIn the five years since its establishment the centre has grown from strength to strength, with conferences booked as far ahead as 2014. The CTICC has already contributed more than R9.5-billion ($1-billion) to the national economy and with the expansion it is expected to contribute a further R21.5-billion ($216-million) by 2013. In 2008 alone, according to economist Barry Standish and economic modeller Antony Boting of Cape Town University’s business school, the contribution to GDP was almost R2.7-billion ($273-million).In terms of job creation CTICC created 3 744 direct jobs in the Western Cape during 2008, with more than 5 300 indirect jobs created nationally. In total some 9 000 people have found employment through the CTICC.The centre has played a big role in the increased allure of Cape Town as a business tourism destination, and has also played host to a number of high-profile music and arts events. Besides the thousands of square metres of exhibition space the CTICC offers two stepped auditoria which seat 1 500 and 620 delegates each, a 2 000m2 grand ballroom which can accommodate up to 1 500 people, a roof terrace meeting room which overlooks Table Mountain, and 33 smaller meeting rooms which can hold from 25 to 330 people each.It also boasts three restaurants, a catering division run by a team of internationally trained chefs, and cutting-edge IT infrastructure. Situated conveniently close to the city centre and a number of major hotels, including the integrated five-star ArabellaSheraton Grand Hotel, there is no shortage of nearby useful facilities for delegates and visitors. As green as can beConstruction of the CTICC’s new wing will be carried out to the requirements set by the Green Building Council of South Africa. As green buildings, or buildings that are energy and resource efficient and environmentally responsible, become increasingly popular, the Council is leading the transformation of the local property industry to ensure that all buildings are designed, built and operated in an environmentally sustainable way for the benefit of all South Africans.Toefy expects the new CTICC to receive six green stars from the Council, which will begin its Green Star SA rating program in December 2008. This is the highest rating achievable.Do you have queries or comments about this article? Relocating rhino to create new breeding populations

first_img24 March 2015Nineteen black rhino were recently released at an undisclosed location in South Africa to create a new breeding population of the critically endangered animals. The animals form the 10th population to be facilitated through WWF South Africa’s Black Rhino Range Expansion Project and were made available through the Eastern Cape Parks and Tourism Agency. Growing rhino populations is part of WWF South Africa’s five-point rhino plan.Black rhino are more at risk of extinction than white rhino due to their low numbers. Since the start of the programme in 2003, around 160 black rhino have been relocated to form new breeding populations, and more than 50 calves have been born on project sites.Management plan“We are extremely proud of the agency’s contribution to the conservation of this species,” said Vuyani Dayimani, CEO of Eastern Cape Parks and Tourism Agency. “By doing this the agency is actively contributing to the achievement of the objectives of the national biodiversity management plan for black rhino in South Africa.”One of the key objectives of this plan is to grow the national population as rapidly as possible by harvesting animals from populations that are at or near ecological carrying capacity and using these animals to create new populations. This harvesting stimulates growth in the donor population and also makes animals available for the creation of new populations.“We are really grateful for Eastern Cape Parks and Tourism Agency’s progressive approach to the conservation of black rhino,” said Dr Jacques Flamand, head of the Black Rhino Range Expansion Project.Commitment“It requires a genuine commitment to conservation to entrust others with the care of such a large group of these precious animals; but this is for the greater good of the species. Establishing a new population is extremely exciting for us because this is essentially what the project works towards. To see our efforts come to fruition is very encouraging.”The Black Rhino Range Expansion Project aims to increase the numbers of black rhino by encouraging rapid population growth. It is a vital part of South Africa’s drive to reach a target of 3 000 black rhino. According to Dr Flamand: “South Africa now has significantly more black rhino than there would have been without the project’s intervention.“Founder populations released on to large areas of land have the potential to increase quickly in number. And moving rhinos from our major parks relieves pressure, allowing for more rapid growth both at source and in their new terrain.”SecurityThe Western Black rhino, a subspecies of the black rhino, was officially declared extinct in 2013 after last being seen in 2006.The recent translocation involved WWF and Eastern Cape Parks and Tourism Agency with help from SANParks and Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife. Six wildlife veterinarians participated in the project that saw darted animals being airlifted by helicopter to a central loading area where they were loaded into crates and prepared for a road trip to their new home.“The project was kept secret for security reasons and one of the highlights of the operation was the manner in which the different state agencies supported and assisted each other to ensure its success,” said Dayimani. As well as focusing on population growth, the Black Rhino Range Expansion Project supports security efforts on major rhino reserves. It is funded by WWF Netherlands and supported by the Ford Wildlife Fund. Founder populations for the project sites have come from game reserves managed by Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife and Eastern Cape Parks and Tourism Agency.Source: World Wildlife Fund South Africalast_img read more

HAIR TOOLS Butterfly Hair Salon Section Clamps/Clips X12 PURPLE – The clips that I received were not purple but were

first_imgIncredibly satisfied with head jog clips. Seriously nice to glimpse atcame extremely speedily by deliverywould buy yet again :).Does what it claims on the tin. I have very long thick hair and these did the task. Essential clips but they do the work and for a cut price price tag.I am genuinely happy with these. While they do glimpse a tiny inexpensive they are quite robust and unlikely to crack conveniently. I am seventeen and use these just about every time i do my hair and they do a excellent position of keeping it back. Came specifically a 7 days soon after id requested mine. I purchased them on a thursday and they came the following thursday. Purpose for 4 star is for the reason that you get what your compensated for definitely, there is very little amazing about them but for the selling price, i wouldn’t doubt them.Bought these to go with a crimper i bought for my grandaughters birthday. They are robust and long lasting. Are not able to consider how low-cost they ended up. Generally you only get what you spend for, so i was expecting something cheap and tacky, but it is rather the reverse. The clips that i received were being not purple but have been. The clips that i obtained were being not purple but have been black, nevertheless they do the task. Tiny little bit dissapointed as was searching forward to the purpleupdate – the company have now despatched me the purple clips and they are good.Reviews from purchasers :Adore them! Gorgeous colour, gorgeous quality!I like to use them to section my hair when straightening I really like the grip on these clips but the only fact The clips that I received were not purple but were Great cheapie clipsSO CHEAP AND IT WORKSPretty nice grips which certainly aid me divide my hair when making use of the hairdryer or brush styler. Brilliant and uncomplicated to use would certainly suggest them.I like to use them to section my hair when straightening. I purchased these ages back (assumed i reviewed them but i have completed so in the earlier and even now get asked to re-critique). I like to use them to section my hair when straightening (although that is some thing i not often do now) i have had no trouble with them and would endorse them, although for standard use (just clipping your hair up) they are not wide adequate for my thick curly hair. But they meet the function for what i purchased them for.I genuinely like the grip on these clips but the only actuality. I truly like the grip on these clips but the only simple fact i gave it 3 stars is because they are deadly the pointy detail on the clip where by you maintain it from is sharper than a knife i have had a lot of scratches in the earlier so i stopped working with them. They are a good excellent and have a sturdy clip. They have manufactured sectioning my hair for curling, dying and so forth. The only draw back is that some of the tooth are misshapen but this will not have an effect on the grip. Wonderful merchandise in particular contemplating the low rate.I wouldnt dress in them out, but they are terrific for sectioning hair. Not confident id use them for a baby as they are a little bit sharp, but im content with them. There is no motive not to purchase this solution other than purple not currently being your color. It’s soooo cheap and it performs and does not split quickly. The butterfly hair clips are a good colour they are fantastic high quality not easily snapped the grip a fantastic amount of money of hair in them securely they are a good selling price and effectively worth it.I cannot praise these clips high adequate. I brought these to clip my hair up although i am straightening it.This is a wonderful solution,i am not a hairdresser but have sat at sufficient salons to see these becoming utilised. They are simple to use & clip your hair back whilst you dry the rest of it.Been accomplishing my personal hair, my nana’s and my mum’s for some time, but by no means experienced the appropriate clips to aid me section. These are incredibly very well priced for what they are, they usually are not low-cost and don’t break as well easily, like other clips i’ve purchased. If you usually model your hair section by section, i propose these. These are definitely solid for drying your hair in sections. Well happy with them, they will last me for ages .The clips have been excellent worth but postage charges not. The clips are great but would be reluctant to get a little something so low-cost following time as the postage costs cancelled out the superior benefit. I need to have ordered other goods to make it much better benefit.I bought these to aid my daughter when she is dying her hair. She does it herself and i know these clips make her daily life much easier. These clips are good and a discount price. I initially acquired them to clip my thick hair when hair drying but am also now employing them as an every day clip as they are so fantastic.Loved them they do preserve you hair in put there truly powerful as i have been disapointed with the ones i obtain in the outlets if i realized they where by this potent i would of bought additional.Acquired these for a mate to use on my hair as she is a hair dresser and did my perm as a favour at house so i experienced to provide the ‘kit’ as she typically works in a salon and only has minimal tools at household. She said they had been high-quality and i glimpse excellent so guess we had been the two happy.last_img read more

Stop Complaining That You Have Clients

first_img Essential Reading! Get my 2nd book: The Lost Art of Closing “In The Lost Art of Closing, Anthony proves that the final commitment can actually be one of the easiest parts of the sales process—if you’ve set it up properly with other commitments that have to happen long before the close. The key is to lead customers through a series of necessary steps designed to prevent a purchase stall.” Buy Now Your customer is difficult. The challenges they provide you are extremely hard to overcome. Many of the problems stem from the changes they need to make, and making those changes would help you help them. You can be unhappy about that fact, or your can be grateful that this is your client.Your client expects you to respond to their needs quicker than you believe you should have to. What they want is something you can and will provide them—with or without the conversation they seem to need. You can work yourself up about having to hold their hand, or you can be grateful they have asked for your help at all.Your client makes a lot of changes. Once you figure out how to execute, they move the goal post, and you have to start over again. This takes time and energy, and it means you repeat the same work over again. You can wish you didn’t have to do this work, or you can be grateful that you are the one doing it.One of the contacts at a client is super needy. They take more time than any other contact you deal with—even at much larger clients. You can resent that you get their phone calls and emails, or you can be thankful that you have a relationship all locked up, free from a competitive displacement. Here’s the rub. The client you believe is a burden is the very client your competitors are trying to take from you right now. What you perceive as problems, challenges, and obstacles, they see as opportunities. Your competitors would be happy to relieve you of the burden of having to work with challenging clients. They would be overjoyed by the opportunity to respond to their needs in your stead. They would make the changes needed to execute, even if wasn’t easy. Right now, one of your competitors is hoping that you don’t pick up the phone when your client calls, and they hope your absence creates an opportunity for them to be there for your client.Complacency kills. Neglect kills. Entitlement kills even faster. If you don’t like your clients, you don’t have to keep them. Someone else will gladly take them off your hands. You don’t have an absolute right to keep their business. Stop complaining that you have clients.last_img read more
