Phantom Works is under contract for eight A160 UAVs for DARPA and 10 for Naval Air Systems Command. Phantom Works will complete initial development of the Hummingbird and then transfer the program to Boeing Integrated Defense Systems for further development and production. VICTORVILLE – Boeing is testing an unmanned helicopter intended to fly longer, farther and higher, while making much less noise than current helicopters. The A160 Hummingbird unmanned aerial vehicle could provide reconnaissance, surveillance, target acquisition, communication relay and re-supply for the military, the Department of Homeland Security and other organizations, Boeing said. “This flight … is an important step toward concept demonstration of this innovative UAV to offer unprecedented capabilities in the history of helicopters,” said Gary Gallagher, A160 program manager for Boeing Phantom Works. “This aircraft can change all the rules as they apply to UAV vertical takeoff and landing operations.” Built for the Navy and a Pentagon research agency, the craft is intended to fly in excess of 24 hours, farther than 2,800 miles and at up to 30,000 feet in altitude, Boeing said. 160Want local news?Sign up for the Localist and stay informed Something went wrong. Johannesburg, Thursday 17 September 2015 – Brand South Africa today took the national agenda to build and profile South Africa’s competitive strengths to Nelspruit, Mpumalanga, during a one-day workshop. The workshop was attended by local government representatives and officials from the Department of Health, Department of Rural Development and Land Reform, and the Government Communication and Information System.Robust discussion ensued on what makes South Africa a globally competitive inward destination for investment, tourism and skills and how provinces can play their part.Provincial and city brands are a critical building block of the nation brand, particularly as they often provide the first experience of a country. Visitors and investors experience a country through its provinces and cities and it for this reason that Brand South Africa is taking its programmes to provinces. One of the greatest attributes of the province of Mpumalanga and a significant contribution to the nation brand is its tourism offering and experience which begins at the airport. Discussions at the workshop centered on economic development and potential in the province. This will impact positively on both provincial social and economic development and ultimately South Africa’s reputation.Follow the conversation on #CompetitiveSA
A Comprehensive Guide to a Content Audit Tags:#advertising#e-commerce#earnings#Facebook#mobile dave copeland Facebook will release its second set of quarterly earnings as a public company on Tuesday, and early indications are they will be better than the results the social network announced in July. But even if they aren’t, Wall Street seems to be falling in love with the company all over again, as Facebook now seems to have an actual plan to get more of your money.Like a lot of Web companies, Facebook adopted the drug dealer’s business model: The first one’s free. That is, give the product to the users for free so they get hooked on it and start spending real money. But unlike a lot of other tech companies, Facebook promised early on it would never charge users. That means while competitors like LinkedIn pull in a few dollars per user per month on average as a result of premium subscription models, Facebook has to eke out about 40 cents per user per month through display advertising. When you have more than a billion users, a few cents per user per month is still a lot of money, but not nearly as much as Wall Street had hoped Facebook would earn.A Better Ad StrategyFacebook matched analysts estimated when it released second-quarter earnings in July, but the company’s shares still fell, mostly because comments made by its top executives in a conference call with analysts failed to offer concrete proof the company had a plan for growth.Facebook has spent the past three months hoping its actions will speak louder than words. It released faster mobile platforms for iOS and Android. Faster platforms mean more content consumption which means more ads served. It has struck partnerships to better understand how its ads work and convince advertisers that an unclicked ad on Facebook may still lead to an offline purchase.Digital media management company Spruce Media is already seeing its clients spend more on Facebook ads as a result of the improvements to the programs and mobile platform, according to COO Lucy Jacobs. She expects spending to increase even more this quarter, as her clients take advantage of targeted advertising and promoted posts through Facebook’s platform.“Overall Facebook spending is healthy,” she said. We’re “seeing sequential increases in spend and advertiser excitement about the company’s new ad products.”But the biggest change, and one that drew praise in this morning’s Wall Street Journal, has nothing to do with advertising. But it may be why investors may be taking a second, third or fourth look at Facebook shares.Going Beyond AdvertisingThe Journal was enamored by Facebook Gifts, a product that makes it easy for users to send each other gifts – including real, physical gifts, not just online tokens. It fits in nicely with Facebook’s birthday reminders, not to mention congratulations gifts when someone posts about an engagement, a new job, a new baby or any other life event. Unlike Amazon, you don’t need to know the recipients address, as they will have filled that in on their own.But there’s another reason why Wall Street likes the product – and a reason why users might want to be wary. In the process of sending that gift, Facebook also gets your credit card number.“Facebook probably can build a sizable business around gift-giving, but having credit-card data opens up a new range of revenue opportunities,” the newspaper noted. “The ability to generate cash from ‘likes’ isn’t clear. But the commercial potential from a ‘buy’ button, with commissions coming back to Facebook, could be quite large.” The Dos and Don’ts of Brand Awareness Videos Guide to Performing Bulk Email Verification Related Posts Facebook is Becoming Less Personal and More Pro…

If you can’t see the Caption Panel, simply go to the window menu, and select Captions. Click the Plus button to add a new text box. Make sure your In and Out points match up with the spoken word. You can view the captions in the timeline by expanding the video track. You have a few formatting options, including the type of caption (pop-on, paint-on, 2-4 roll-up lines) and some simple positioning options. With open captions, you have a few extra options, such as additional fonts and size adjustments.Step 3: ExportIn the Export Settings dialog box, use the Caption tab to export the captions as Burn-in or as a Sidecar file. zoom Competition between stevedoring companies at Australia’s three largest container ports is set to intensify as there are three stevedores competing at Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane, a report from Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) finds. The fiercer competition is being announced despite a rise of stevedoring operating profits per TEU worth over 25 percent in 2016-17.“Competition has significantly increased in recent years with the introduction of a third stevedore in Sydney and Brisbane, and now we can add Melbourne to that list. As such, we expect to see greater levels of price competition as new entrants and incumbents compete for market share,” ACCC Chairman Rod Sims said.“Stevedores will need to work harder to win or retain their customers, with benefits flowing through to shipping lines, importers, and exporters.”“However, this remains a critical period for competition. For sustainable competition to develop, these new entrants will need to win a commercially viable share of the market,” Sims added. Image Courtesy: ACCCSpecifically, with the commencement of operations by Victoria International Container Terminal (VICT) at the Port of Melbourne in early 2017, there are now three stevedores at each of the east coast ports for the first time.ACCC anticipates that the increased competition will help shipping lines negotiate better prices and potentially drive better service from the terminal operators through investment. The additional capacity also provides shipping lines with a wider choice of berthing windows. As inforced by the commission, both DP World and Patrick recently either introduced or substantially increased ‘infrastructure charges’ at a number of ports for transport companies collecting or dropping off containers. The stevedores claim that the higher charges are necessary because of rising property costs and the need to fund new investment. While there is merit to the stevedores’ claims about higher property costs, their overall costs remain stable.“While it is true that the stevedores are facing higher property costs, the ACCC will be interested to see whether these infrastructure charges are used to improve landside facilities beyond business as usual levels,” Sims said.“It is concerning that truck and rail operators face these higher charges but are limited in their ability to take their business elsewhere.”Some organisations approached the ACCC with allegations that the new infrastructure charges may have been in contravention of provisions of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010. Most of the concerns were that the price increases were excessive, but there are no provisions in the Act to deal with excessive pricing.Shipping lines benefitted from lower prices as the stevedores reported falling unit revenues in 2016-17, ACCC said. Stevedoring revenue fell 4.5 per cent to USD 138.8 per TEU. This has continued a very consistent trend as unit stevedoring revenue is about a quarter less than a decade ago in real terms. The volume of containers passing through Australia’s ports is the highest ever recorded. In 2016-17 Australian stevedores handled 7.2 million TEUs, an increase of 3.7 per cent. The report also found that quayside productivity remains close to record levels. However, both capital and labour productivity fell slightly.“The stevedoring industry is not reporting the same level of productivity improvements that we have seen in previous years. With the new stevedores now in place along the east coast ports, we will be looking for this productivity growth to return in future,” Sims said.

After a long, bumpy road, Win 10 version 1809 is launching next month, Microsoft says. “Based on the data and the feedback we’ve received from consumers, [manufacturers], [software vendors], partners and commercial customers, Windows 10 version 1809 has transitioned to broad deployment,” the company said in a blog post Thursday. Version 1809 was first announced last August during IFA 2018. The update was meant to replace version 1803. The free update boasted an improved screenshot experience, the Your Phone app, the SwiftKey keyboard for touch, and more. The rollout screeched to a halt in October after users began reporting missing files after the update. Microsoft patched the bug and attempted another rollout later that month, but only to Windows Insiders. Most recently, the company tried to make running its OS easier by automatically uninstalling a failed Windows 10 update.
